About Our Pastors
Stew and Jan Motteram first met in grade eight and were childhood sweethearts throughout high school in Victoria, B.C. After graduation Jan entered training as a registered nurse and Stew began working in furniture sales. Just a few days after Jan graduated she married Stew. Stew had enjoyed performing in local theatre companies for years and he often found himself in teaching situations. Shortly after marriage Jan not only encouraged her husband to enroll in University to work towards a teaching degree, she also committed to support the young family while Stew attended classes. Three years later life got even more challenging with the birth of the first of their two children Scott. After four years of sacrifice and hard work Jan and Stew celebrated his obtaining a four year B.F.A. and a fifth year teacher’s certificate. Stew managed to secure a teaching position in Victoria for a one year term and the young family was finally able to begin decompressing after years of stress.
Throughout their years as girl and boyfriend, engaged couple and newly weds, they lived a ‘clean’ life but really had no interest in religion. From time to time people spoke things of faith into their lives but it wasn’t until 1980 that some Christian students began to speak into Stew’s life. At the same time their best friends had chosen to accept Christ in a personal relationship. Due to their close relationship, it was inevitable that they would discuss matters of faith. After attending just one church service Stew had many questions for his trusted friend. Shortly afterward Stew knelt before the Lord as personal savior and about a week later Jan prayed with her husband and accepted Christ also.
Life for the Motterams would never be the same. Within weeks they had moved to Prince George to accept a full time teaching position. God directed them to what was then The Full Gospel Christian Fellowship. There they received 6 solid years of intense ‘hands on’ discipleship. After only two years teaching public school Stew accepted the position of principal in the Church school. For four years he served double duty as principal at the school and associate Pastor in the Church. During this time Jan was constantly at his side. She gave birth to a daughter Sarah, practiced nursing at the Regional Hospital and was deeply involved in training and serving at the church.
In 1984 Stew and Jan picked up their family and moved to Quesnel to establish The Full Gospel Christian Fellowship – now known as Lakeview Church. Accept for a short 15 month detour ministering in Grande Prairie, the Motterams have served our people and region for 25 years.
Jan and Stew are Pastors. There is no place they would rather serve than in their local church. They love people and willingly give themselves wherever they are needed. They are gifted counselors, administrators, teachers, speakers and visionaries. Their ministries cross generational lines from children to seniors. They have a passion for Missions and believe the Church has been called to serve outside its own four walls.
Stew puts it simple; “God has given us a great deal to do in Quesnel. It has taken twenty five years to get this far so I think we’re going to be around for a long time yet.”
